Rites, the fashion for good platform, is bringing luxury designers and coveted brands together as a community to raise money to support those working to fight inequality and racism.

100 percent of proceeds from the auction will go directly to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust in helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds receive the education, training and support they need to reach their potential.

Going live on Saturday December 12th at 10am, the one-day auction offers customers a rare opportunity to shop a beautifully curated selection of new designer pieces at amazing prices (and all from the comfort of your own home).

Featuring over 150 luxury items, donated by a lineup of over 50 leading designers including Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Simone Rocha, Molly Goddard, Anissa Kermiche, Cecilie Bahnsen, Bella Freud, Shrimps and many more.

The past year has been especially challenging for charities with many facing a funding crisis due to the cancellation of fundraising events, making initiatives like Designers Against Inequality a vital part of supporting young people in the UK.

The Rites founders began to think about ways to take action both within the fashion industry and the wider community. They set out to ask designers to donate items for the auction and received an overwhelming amount of support. “We wanted to ensure charities continue to receive the support they need through lockdown and we are so thankful that the fashion industry has really come out in support of this cause. We’ve been completely overwhelmed by the generosity shown during a time that has been hard for a lot of people.”

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The Designers Against Inequality Auction will take place on the Rites website www.rites.co at 10am GMT on Saturday 12th of December 2020.

People can visit the website to sign up to the Rites newsletter for exclusive product previews and a first-look at the full catalogue of items ahead of the launch.

STEPHEN LAWRENCE CHARITABLE TRUST

The charity was founded on the premise that inequality must be tackled in all its forms and that every young person should be enabled to succeed, not limited by the colour of their skin, where they were born or the school they went to.

The funds from the auction will go towards providing opportunities and support to talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

WHY THEIR WORK MATTERS:

Only 10% of apprentices in England are from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, although 25% of applicants come from those backgrounds.

Black graduates are around twice as likely as white graduates to be unemployed.

Only 1 in 15 people in a management position are from BAME backgrounds.

Less than 7% of board members of FTSE 100 companies come from black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds. (government research shows that only 1 in 9 children from low income backgrounds eventually get into the top jobs).

Whilst 14% of the population comes from a black, Asian or minority ethnic background, less than 1% of local councillors in England come from those backgrounds and only 42 out of 650 MPs.
